School districts wrestle with reopening details
The three school districts that serve Gilbert announced plans for return to school in the fall, but all three admitted those plans are subject to change as the COVID-19 environment changes.
COVID-19: Gilbert sees 115 new cases over weekend; county has increase of 625 cases and 7 deaths Aug. 3
Across Gilbert’s six ZIP codes, there were 4,347 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 on Aug. 3, according to data from the state. That’s an increase of 115 cases from over the weekend. That represents an increase of 11.55% across the town in the past seven days.
Midnight Taco opens a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Gilbert
Midnight Taco opened a second location May 7 at 1395 E. Warner Road, Ste. 100, Gilbert. The Heritage District taco stand offers late night service, but this brick-and-mortar location opens at 11 a.m. Tuesday-Saturday and closes at 7 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
Chandler sees fewer homes on the market during COVID-19 pandemic
The city of Chandler is seeing record-low housing inventory, which is due primarily to the coronavirus pandemic, according to local residential real estate experts.

Across Chandler’s six ZIP codes, there were 6,082 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 on Aug. 3, according to data from the state—161 newly reported cases from over the weekend. That overall number of cases represents an increase of 10.32% across the city in the past seven days.
State superintendent: It is ‘unlikely’ schools will resume in-person on target Aug. 17 date
The state’s highest education official said Aug. 3 that is was “unlikely” that any Arizona school will be able to reopen for in-person or hybrid learning by Gov. Doug Ducey’s targeted Aug. 17 date.
COVID-19: Number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations declining across Arizona
The Arizona Department of Health Services has tracked COVID-19 hospitalization data since early April, and in recent days and weeks the number of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients admitted to a hospital has climbed. Of the 964,418 COVID-19 tests in Arizona, 14.4% have yielded positive results as of Aug. 2. This accounts for diagnostic test results, not antibody test results.
